UCV Campus Alzira.the first day

Monday – 03.03.2014 – First day at Campus de la Ribera (Alzira)

The first impression of the campus in Alzira was very good. It is a very new campus and therefore very cleaned with nice outside garden areas, benches and places to rest. Also the interiours are very nice and clean. Alzira as it self, i would describe more as the little neighbor of Valencia.

The Spanish students and teachers are very open and friendly. I am german but after 5 months living in Denmark I got also a bit used to be a bit more reluctant at the first contacts than normaly and I was surprised (in the positive way) by the open spanish way to connect ). So it seems to be normal for women to welcome strangers fx. with two kisses on the cheecks when you say “Hello”. They just come and do it! But it depends also on who the person is. This was the case at my hosts family, his girlfirend and good friends at the University.

Programm at this day: Welcome distribution and talk of Vice President of UCV – Introduction speech about internationalisation and motivation to go abroad. Information lesson about primary/nursery studies, which are unique in Alzira. Seeing and learning about their schedules (ECTS, Methods, etc…). Discussing and comparing the different school systems from e.g. Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Spain, etc…

In the late session we did a little group work about the „switch the classroom“ – model where we should solve a little task. When the afternoon session was finished we went together with my host Emi and some other Spanish and international students to a shopping center to have some drinks and a little „hang out“.

A good first day ended with some blog-writing, reading-stuff for University and a good dinner at the place of my hosts family.

Valencia.the.city

My first international week during my studies in Denmark brought me to Spain. I was looking forward to warmer temperatures compared to our “hyggelig” but from Oktober to March unacceptable windy and cold Denmark. And yes, here we go! 😉

Out of a list from about 15 offers i decided to visit the spanish east coast because of different reasons. I´ve been to Spain a lot of times, but most for training on the Canary or Balearic Islands or for stops with cruise ships during my time as a travel agent e.g. in Barcelona.

I was really interessted in getting to know other cities except from the Islands and the two famous ones Barcelona and Madrid, so Valencia and its surroundings sounded so , that io decided to go. The International brought me to the small city of Alzira, which is a out 40 Km from Valencia.

Flying with German Lufthansa from Hamburg (Germany) via Düsseldorf to Valencia, which is situatiated directly at the mediterranean coast of Spain, i arrived on Friday. The first evening was just a hang out in the hostel, which i recommend to all travellers

www.quarthostel.es. Its situated in the town centre near the famous towers only ten walking minutes from a high frequented metro station „Angel Guimera“. On Saturday i started my first walk through the city without a real aim. It was nice just walking between those old and beautiful buildings and the tiny little streets. At almost every corner you can find those awesome little cafe´s with an amazing offer of beverages and Tapas. It´s worth just sitting there, relaxing and watching the busy but friendly Valencians walking fastly through the streets.

In the afternoon i was out for a run in the beautiful green area of Valencia which is also very central. You will find Baseballfields, soccerfields, playgrounds, foodplaces, benches to relax and a lot of bridges which cross the old riverbed. A lot of people were running and cycling there during the day.

For the ones who do not know my texts and blogs, i always try to find some good places to swim and run, so i can recommend these to like-minded people who are looking for places to do some training in different destinations. An opportunity to swim you can find near the metro station Angel Guimera.

You follow the street to the west and turn 2nd left. On the right side is a big complex including a little police station. There is a big fitness centre with 2x 25m pools.

Entry for adults is 3,70 € – i forgot to ask for student discount!

And now i am excited about the next days in Alzira with the other students and my host student Emi. Stay tuned for more!
